The coarse polyester acts as a substrate for biological filtering and should be carefully rinsed in a bucket of pond water to maintain the bacteria growing on it. Replacement Media for 1000/2000 Series Pond Filters One complete set of filter media provides mechanical, biological and chemical filtration. Resists compacting and is washable and reusable. The coarse polyester should be used as the first layer of media and the carbon-coated material as the second layer. This produces a gradual filtration process.
